I’m currently on fall break and this past weekend Ben had his first 24 hour shift. I was dreading being at the apartment by myself for the whole time so I decided to make a trip back to Ohio to spend some time with my family. It’s refreshing to get out of the city and back to the middle of cornfields even if it’s just for 24 hours.

While at home I headed over to spend some time with my grandma because I haven’t seen/talked to her since our wedding. She never ceases to amaze me with her quick mind, God filled spirit, and her loving heart. She’s now 97 years old and just started to use a walker (she really doesn’t even need one it’s more precautionary). Going over to her home always brings a flood of sweet memories back into my heart. She LOVES plants (where I got it from) and has at least 15 in her home. Her house hasn’t been remodeled and has had few minor changes to it in the past 40 years. Her living room has the classic brown and green shag carpet and her decor just continues to grow each year. She’s someone that has always been dear to my heart and a faith pillar in my life. She’s lived 97 years on the Earth, imagine all the major changes she has seen/gone through. It’s pretty amazing to hear all her stories of change and of her young days during the depression. After spending time with her again my eyes were opened to see how great of a blessing she really is.

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. (James 1:17)

Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

(1 Thessalonians 5:18)

(This dish was the “candy dish” whenever we visited Grandma’s house. It’s famous for having orange slices in it.)
