Cinque Terre

Cinque Terre, my absolute favorite place of our entire trip. It combined scenery, amazing food and hiking all in one, which is pretty much my three favorite things when it comes to vacation.

We got off the train in Riomaggiore, which is where we stayed. However, we hiked/ rode the train to all five of these little towns along the rocky Ligurian coast line. Riomaggiore was a great place to stay, it wasn’t the most exciting of the villages, but it was quiet and beautiful and had a secret little beach that made for perfect nights of watching the sun slowly fade into the Sea.

Italy was by far my favorite country. Pesto, pasta and white wine…what more do I need to say!?

But seriously, Ben used to try and make pesto pasta early on in our relationship and I HATED the store- bought pesto here which made me think I just didn’t like pesto or basil. Let’s just say the real Italian pesto is AMAZING. Pair it with homemade gnocchi, bread with fresh olive oil and balsamic and a glass of Cinque Terre white wine and I could sit around a table all day long.

We did two big hikes but my favorite was the path from Monterosso al Mare to Vernazza. Vernazza is the village that will most likely pop up when you type in Cinque Terre into Google. It’s the most picturesque place I have ever been to. After getting done with our hike we grabbed some gelato and sprawled out on a giant rock in the center of the marina to soak up the sun and watch all the hustle and bustle in the “gem” of Cinque Terre. I watched as little crabs clung to the island we sat on as the waves pushed them back and forth against the rock. We were merely just temporary spectators in this life that happens every day. I loved being a part of it.
